“Why does stability matter so much in all your movements? Is it that important to growing muscle and should I start incorporating more stable movements?”

Here’s the thing, you don’t need to add all these stability components but will it help? Yes.

BUT

I think an important factor when it comes to training is how much you actually enjoy it.

If you like throwing some heavy weight around and I stick you on a bench so that we can control a movement to the teenth factor, sure we might be able to get more out of the movement, but for how long?

Chances are you’ll get bored of it and actually start regressing from the lack of want to do it.

Let’s establish that first.

Next, when we are talking specifically about muscle hypertrophy, our only goal is to stimulate the muscle to recruit more contractile tissue for the next time it is put under said stimulus.

With that being said, any way we can hyperfocus in doing so will help.

Stability allows us to generate more force production in a movement, specifically more focused force production.

The more force we can produce means we can move more weight and the more weight we move in a focused manner the more stimulus we can produce.

SO

If your goal is to grow muscle “optimally”, you will look to stabilize any exercise you do to its utmost.

If your goal to enjoy your gym time while you’re there and hyper focusing on movements doesn’t catalyze that enjoyment (lol), then I’d highly recommend just working in a manner that best excites you!

DO NOT do what you think you have to do.

DO what is going to enhance your time in the gym!

Best Wishes,

Coach Austyn
